What is my goal? What is a 5er?
Hello there. I have created this personal space primarily to keep track of my daily intake of fruits & vegetables, which is recommended at 5-9 servings. Although this is what the current food pyramid suggests, I wonder how across the board this value is, considering our varied lifestyles & health situations. I hope to conduct more research into this value, as it pertains to my health. If you find my findings to be helpful & applicable to your own life, then please let me know. If you have your own suggestions, please share as well. In the long term, this space aspires to be a hub of health knowledge that might benefit anybody.
So, essentially, I am proclaiming myself a 5er. A 5er is an individual who is consciously eating at least 5 servings of fruits & vegetables per day. This is the minimum serving. I would like to begin this baby step of achieving this day-by-day goal, in order to attain and live a lifetime of health & wellness. Perhaps once I have built this seemingly simple habit everyday, I will become more conscious and committed to making better choices regarding my nutrition & fitness.
Even though this is a very personal struggle, I would like to invite you to join me. Aside from keeping a journal of what fruits & vegetables that I have consumed, these are some things that I look forward to exploring:
- Interview friends, relatives, & community members regarding where they get their fruits & vegetables, e.g. farmer’s markets, stores, etc.
- Grow my own herbs & vegetables.
- Learn various food preparation techniques & recipes.
