1st F&V log
Today I have eaten the following fruits & vegetables:
* Baby carrots = probably 2.5-3 cups
* 2 slices of grapefruit = 1/8 to 1/4 cup
* green grapes = approx. 1-1.5 cup
* sauteed this dish: cactus (not sure, but diced slices fit into 1 literal cup), spinach (3 pcs), green onions (2 pcs.), tomato (1 pc), cilantro (3-5 pcs.), garlic (4 pcs.), onion (1/2 bulb)
* special herb used: star anise! = has anti-viral properties
The more entries I make here, the more savvy I will get with calculating how much servings I am actually making. I found this CDC webpage (http://www.fruitsandveggiesmatter.gov/what/examples.html) that helps you determine how much is a cup of serving.
Actually, the main page of that same website contains a quick self-assessment quiz entitled, “How much fruits & vegetables do you need?” Here is the result that I got based on my answers regarding my age, gender, & level of physical activity:
1.5 cups of fruit and 2.5 cups of vegetables every day based on your age ( 26 ), sex( female ), and level of physical activity( less than 30 minutes ).
* Your results are based on a 1800 calories per day calorie requirements. Your age, sex, and activity level determine how many calories you need each day, and your calorie needs determine how many fruits and vegetables you should eat.
Well, that is all for now…..I will do more research about this website later on.
